Why I made The Care Frame
Hi, I'm Josh.
When my grandparents both developed dementia, my mum stopped working and moved them into her home to care for them full time.
What stayed with me was that they were still themselves. Same personality, same humour. They had just lost track of the day.
And that scared them. Waking up not knowing what day it was, where everyone had gone, or when anyone was coming back. When you feel lost and alone, all you can do is pick up the phone.
Whenever Mum left the house, it would ring. What day is it? Where am I? When are you back? She never complained, but every trip out came with a bit of guilt.
I kept thinking there had to be a simple way to keep them calibrated. Something that tells them what they need to know, in her words, without them having to figure out another device.
And that's what we made. A simple screen in their home that you control and update from your phone. There’s nothing for them to navigate. The message is right there on the screen.
“Morning Mum & Dad. It’s Tuesday. You’re at home. I’ve gone to the shops, back at 11.”
That’s what The Care Frame is for. To help support loved ones with memory loss.
